Well I believe it's cheaper to buy balls, and they throw good sparks...

The majority of people on fullsize forums uses balls but I don't know if they last as long as blocks or what...
I'm soon to make mounts, so I gotta find out what mounts I'm making. =P

i used old leafsprings, i cut them into 4inch long pieces and weld them to the frame. i think they spark up better then balls do...

Blazed22s
06-21-2007, 01:34 PM
and after you bag your truck, the springs are usually just sitting around collecting dust, so why not use them for some fun!

Blocks are better if you could afford it, they throw better sparks.

If you seen my video of me draggin my balls it throws some nice sparks too.

Balls are just cheaper, you can buy a bulk for $5 ea.

Exactly.
Where do you buy your bulk?
I'm probably going to just buy boxes and boxes of them and keep like 20 in the truck at all times. =P

Partsamerica.com you can order them for rather cheap

Guy on ebay sells titanium for $18 a block, damn good price, when my sub frame is done I will be getting some.

I usually just weld some chunk of steel that I have layin around to the frame and drag it till its gone. but Ive seen trailer balls throw some pretty good sparks too.

harbor freight sells trailer balls for 5 bucks and i like them cause they are easily changable, but blocks do spark better, but balls spark like crazy too, and anyone who makes fun of drag balls but uses blocks is a hypocrit there are both styles of dragging training wheels. drag frame or body best way to go!

c.nash

Hm...
So I gotsta make some mounts for either one... Hmm...

Dammit, this is confusing lol.

Yea but it's welded...
I think i want something that the brackets and the blocks are different pieces so I can just change out the blocks or balls instead of having to swap the whole thing.

Yup saw that, over time they actually save you money over buying brian blocks when you just have to buy the $15 replacements...

I'm debating between the SD blocks located at the rear of the cab or drag balls mounted on the rear of the frame where I can lay out without worrying about not laying frame and then drag by riding a little cali. =P

I always put stuff on the rear of my frame so I can still lay out, plus the sparks go father out behind you b/c they come from the back of the truck not the middle so you can see them better

This is probably what I will end up doing.
I might fab up some mounts out of cardboard tommorow then weld this up this coming week.

its already been stated once......... BITCH BLOCKS/BALLS SUCK!!!!! i understand people may have 10k in paint/50k showtruck...... thats the exception to that rule.... i will never have a show truck! i will always drag body. the black top is my body man of choice when it come to rocker removal! just my 2 cents

Yea... I plan on making my truck nice over time, not destroying the work. =P

If stuff breaks I'll fix it, but I don't want to intentionally break it lol.

This could go on for ever. lol I love my truck, I love draggin. I see no point if f-n up my frame. Plates are one thing, but true frame is gay. Yes you can fix it. Buy why mess with the structural integrity of you frame? Infact I kind of think its dum. I have no prob with plateing my frame and dragin the piss out of it. But true frame is not for me.

As far as the ball vers block goes,......I have dragged balls many
times. The good, cheep, good spark, ez to change. The bad, they melt, I have got in them so hot that the ball kind of moved back. I have heard that some times the ball part will snap off.
Blocks, the good, sick sparks, last much longer, safer. The bad, more$$$, harder to change, if gets hung-up on some thing may twist your frame.
I would go with the balls, but then agin im cheep like that. lol
The best to me would be to plate you frame tho.

ive drug body and frame but you can only drag so much without major changes to the floor. I drug the body to the pinch weld were the floor meets the rockers so I am done draggin body. as far as the frame goes there is no point in draggin true frame it just destroys the frame.

I like cutting up leaf springs and welding it to the frame. That works well for me. I don't have a really good place for mounting balls or blocks (I have a pair of each sitting in my toolchest). I want to put the blocks back on though, just need to find a better spot so I don't have to ride too high.

I prefer consumable products over frame. One, I don't feel like fixing my frame if there is a way to avoid. Two, if you drag too much of your framework away, you weaken the structure of your truck and you cause a host of problems.

i use steel tubing 2x2", 1/4" wall in side of 3x3" tubing welded to the frame with 2 bolts in the front of it you can slide the 2x2 down through it and titen up the bolts and you got a fresh drag block beacause the 2x2 is so thin it heats up really fast and you get a ton of sparks
i dont have any pics but i do have a video

vvvvv

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZgvZE9P1rYo

that was only about a 30 second drag the camera man didnt get it recording riht away but as you can see that was alot os spraks for 50mph

Do you have a picture of this setup? It sounds like a good idea and I don't like having the blocks I have on my truck now because they stick down so far and I'd like some adjustability.

sorry no pics yet. in the video that was the same 2x2 steel but welded to the frame in front

the only problem it that it drags through really fast

im not a fan of either if u lay out then drag the f'n frame, but i can understand if u have paintwork and such on the frame ur tryin to maintain, then id say use blocks.... not so much a fan of trailer balls or whatever cuz ive seen em break off at high speed and go through windshields
