Well here's the lowdown on the Lightning, it is at TNT Kustims being built up by Timmy and Seth and others. Saw it today and its looking good, ran into a few problems with the KP components 6 link but hopefully will turn out alright. Got a few quick pics should be up soon.

My setup

8 GC 350 1/2 valves
Re6's in front
Re7's in rear
KPC bolt in 6link w/ cantilever
KPC front Cups
DJM UCA's LCA's
Belltech Drop Spindles
2 Viair 400c's
8-10 gallons of air
4pc Trainhorns

Soon to have doors, antenna, and some emblems shaved. fix some dents and re-spray it silver

pics shortly

Also, you can answer via PM if you want, I'm just curious why you're not having Donnie do it? Time constraints?

Good luck dude!

ONE_LO_SVT
05-15-2008, 11:43 PM
nah man, not me. Will def. be taking it to alot of florida shows, gas is too high to take it out of state. If i come into alot of money in the future i'll def. build up the motor and slap a polished Whipple on it, but in the mean time my pullies, chip, exhaust, intake and other little bits will be suffice. still want to get headers though.

On another note a bit of a update

trucks out of the shop, drove it to the boat last night, drove fine, no problems EXCEPT the rear fenders were not trimmed enough and during the drive home the tire rubbed the whole way home, and i didnt even realize it, when i got to the boat i looked at the tire and there was No more sidewall, and the lip of the rim was worn right down to metal. So now 3 out of 4 rims are fucked and need to be repainted/repaired.

Work still needed:

Gauge Lights

I need to put in the Explorer brake booster cause the wheel hits when fully laid

Need to get some bumper brackets made

Rear Rollpan Shaved (jon at epicenter)

drag blocks put in

Bump stops on axle

New Stereo put back in

smooth bed caps and tailgate cap and shaved wiper cowl installed.

Antenna shaved, hood squirters shaved, doors fixed, drivers door dent pulled

Nathans p3 horn installed

a low pro fuel cell

and truck eventually repainted.

the truck is currently at SteadFast Liners in Deerfield as we speak getting a spray in bed liner, saw some of there work and it looked awesome, they actually removed a customers lineX bed today and replaced it w/ thers, and there price is only 460 for all prep work needed (i have welds that need to be ground smooth) and 4 coats of the liner. pick it up tomorrow so will have pics.

I def. need to look at getting some bigger bags up front the RE6's just arent enough will need custom cups made for em, or mod the ones i have now.

BodyRoadSparks
08-07-2008, 08:22 PM

Nah, i didnt hear anything out of the norm, and it was the rear and never smelt a thing, def sucks, but such is life, prolly just going to sand all the lips down, tape em up as best i can and shoot some black on em, shouldnt be too noticeable.

And the 22's clear by about 2-3 inches but at like 150psi. and they'll only go up to 120 w/ the compressors off.

man i was checking all the mirrors the whole way down and never saw a thing, i think it might of just been when i got close and was a little switch happy and might of dropped it a lil too low, i'm still learning. hopefully the bed liner comes out nice and cheers me up a bit. anyone know a good wheel repair shop in south florida?

ONE_LO_SVT
08-07-2008, 11:03 PM
aight dan, i figure if its more than 150 for each wheel might as well buy new ones, i dont think it will be that much though, all they need is paint on 2, and the actual repair on that one.

doogstein
08-08-2008, 01:11 PM
for the 2 wit paint u might as well just do that urself honeslty but for da one dat actually needs fixing hes gona have to see it before he gives me a price.

Ah gotcha, hard to notice in the rear.

Man I'm glad I got 18s lol. I ride with 60psi in the front and 10psi in the rear, at every turn and every bump I drag but nothing rubs severely. Can't wait til I go with the 15" smoothies with a BIG white wall tire. :D

Congrats on getting the truck back, now go enjoy it!

ONE_LO_SVT
08-08-2008, 11:07 PM
yesir, and i just spent the past hour trimming out the wheel well, and i really had to trim ALOT! and it still could use more, i tried to make it as clean as possible, its only about 1/4 inch lip now compared to the about 3/4 inch before hand, didnt have to cut so much out of the pass. side. I really need to get bump stops and drag blocks put on to keep me from going to low in the rear. But i'm not going to bradenton now, need to drive the lightning local before i make a long trip just in case, so i will bring it out to Packys tmorrow night. gonna spend most of the day tomorrow putting the sidesteps, bed caps, mirrors, and wiper cowl on, and raise the bumper, then have a go at painting the rims.

draggindually93

ONE_LO_SVT
08-11-2008, 07:18 PM
yesir, gotta love loxahatchee.

Well got a alignment today and while it was on the lift noticed a couple SERIOUS PROBLEMS that i'm not too happy about. 1

st one, Major one, the bed floor is not level, drivers side is about 1/2-5/8 inch higher than passenger and once you realize it it really sticks out like a sore thumb and now that its linexed there aint really much i can do about it. and the bed also looks like its on crooked, theres about a 2 1/2 gap on passenger side from the bed to the cab, and theres about a 3inch gap on the drivers side.
Dont know if this is just not and bolt adjustments or what.

2nd, notched one of the crossmembers for the driveshaft and it wasnt notched enough and its rubbing, then theres a 2nd crossmember behind that one that the gas tank bolts too, and that one wasnt notched at all and Rubs BAD!!! i've taking at least a 1/8 of a inch off the driveshaft.

and the last one is the 4 link bushings, i'd say 6 of them are already shot, and i havnt even driven the truck for more than 3 days. dont know if thats kp or if the bars were overtightened?

DONT LET THEM CUT THE CROSSMEMBERS IT NEEDS A CARRIER BEARRING!!!!some shops that will remain unnamed will just cut out the cross members on the cab(and weaken the integrity of the cab) that is NOT the right way to do it. AND IF IT KEEPS RUBBING THE DRIVESHAFT WILL BREAK AND DAMAGE YOUR TRUCK FURTHER.just my .02 worth...

You can clearly see by the tailgate that the left side of the bed floor is lower than the right. Just curious but how much did you pay for the bed floor? Not that price should be an issue b/c the work should have been done to the best of the builder ability regardless.

so i said i wasnt going to get involved in this, but the bed floor was done for free. and anyone who has ever raised a bed floor knows how much work it is to do and how hard it is to get it right. if someone can say that they have raised a bed floor and never had to shim anything then more power to them. but in my experiance that is next to impossible.

ill give you that, raising a bed floor is not the easiest thing to do, BUT, being off by 3/4" - 1" is not okay in my book. thats simple tape measure opperator, and measurment error. being and 1/4" off is one thing, but 3/4" - 1" is unexceptable for 2 reasons. 1- you make the customer unhappy (as we see here). 2- people start to question your work.

and that being "the worst pic ever" has nothing to do with weather or not the floor is crooked.

im not trying to start shit or piss people off but clearly that bad was not built as well as it could have been. i noticed the height of the sides before i read the post where brent made note of it. so take that how you will. :D

lol, sorry dan i deleted it

Well i went to talk with Bob at Madmods on saturday, and if he's willing i'm going to have it dropped off at his shop while i'm away.

-He will relocate all air management to one location under the bed, not a tank here and tank there comp. here comp there, it will all be together. and train horns put on
-Fuel tank will try to be moved and if it is too large a fuel cell will be ordered
-Doors shaved, antenna shaved, hood shaved
-New Crossmembers made or originals fixed
-Everything under the hood that will need relocating will be relocated and everything needed to make front lay frame will be done.
-passenger wheel well cut out and drivers side cleaned up, the cuts arent too pretty
-i'm going to leave the bed alone, although it is not level, its hard to notice with the tailgate on
-Body kit WILL come off. the body kit is lower than the frame, it just doesnt make sense to destroy it, i might hold on to it and just bolt it on for shows, but for everyday driving it will be off.
-A drag bar/rollpan protector will be made for the rear, Bobs done a few for some f150s and he has a really good design

thats about it for now, i leave for a trip on friday, will be back in October, plan is right now to drop the lightning off with him while i'm away and he just goes at, would be nice if its finished by time i get back but if its not no biggie, ranger should be done by then lol, i figure 11 months is enough time to get that one done.

goes into madmods in two weeks, gonna have someone drive it down, prolly Dan. well, the rear would always lay out, it was the front that had me worried. And from what timmy was telling me ALOT was needed to be cut out, and he was warning me about the structural integrity and that got me worried so i said no. and pretty much by me making the decision to not cut up the front i thought i'd get the truck back earlier......

But with the way the front is right now, i really have no choice but to go through with it, drivers side goes way lower passengers hits the wheel well hard, drivers side also lays on the booster and computer, not to mention the cuts will need to be addressed, already rusting alot and just dont look good, and after talking with Bob, he said i will be fine, he's done a few f150's and knows exactly what will need to be done, and we all know how good his work is so i wont have to worry about a shit getting f****d up even with me being thousands of miles away. i cant wait, and me personally think the L will look sick laying frame w/o the bodykit, people will be like "o another f150 laying frame blah blah blah...o shit nevermind that things a lightning" lol

Well went and checked it out today.
This was the first week its really got some good work into it, and man am i impressed. Starting to look really good, and real clean and organized rather than a tank here, tank there, compressor here, compressor there like before.

Rick the past owner/operator of Wicked Customs is doing the suspension work. He's pretty much there with the rear, he cut the crossmember with that cylinder off, think its something with the brakes, and relocated it a bit further forward.
Fabd a new crossmember to mount the trainhorns and compressors.
Recessed some brackets in the frame rail for the tank to mount and have the bed clear with still a good inch or so.
Watts Link comes in hopefully this weekend, to eliminate the panhard bar
We did away with the manifold setup, just wasnt working for everything, the front was to inaccessible so it will be moved to the rear, and the rear valves will just mount directly to the tank. the top tank port will get a hardline directly to the trainhorns with a valve in between to look like its "floating"
He is going to reinforce the notch with a bar going across the frame, cause he feels its would be much safer, especially with the torque the truck has.
Gas tank should be fine, but we will try and raise it up a bit.
He going to redo all the crossmembers that were causing the problems with the driveshaft and that pretty much does it for the rear.

Front should get redone this weekend,
We'll have all the previous cuts cleaned up and looking good, cut out the passenger side, relocate everything properly, and get it laying frame. Rick said he should have most of it done this weekend, and the rest by next week. then its off to Bob to get the body work and paint done. and i cant wait, we got some nice ideas to tweak that paint scheme with some airbrushing and some graphics so it should come out looking awesome.

Well heres a few pics i took before it got too dark.

well went by and saw it today. Bed is on, front suspension work is done, however he has to cut into the firewall, we didnt think we would have to but after measuring and more measuring it had to be done, so its going to be there for another week or two. He's hoping just one more week, but it might be two. But everythings looking good. He put the stock control arms back on, flipped the balljoint w/ a c10 balljoint, flipped the tierod and done... get a little less camber too but not much. so hopefully one more week to cut and tub the firewall, may put some trailer fenders in, not sure yet, and then to the body shop. here's some pics.

Looking really good man, should be really nice when it's finished. The guy doing the work looks like he does clean work, all the stuff in the back looks clean and organized unlike on a lot of other trucks I see.

And stop taking pictures of my boat, R8, and Bentley.

Well just got it back from Rick, so the suspension is done, going to drive it around for a day, then drop it off w/ bob for the body work. But i drove it home and no rubbing and no problems, everythings been relocated and cleaned up, now i just need Bob to smooth out and paint the firewall to have it look awesome. I dont think i'll ever drag it though, gas tank is still just too close, so i'm going to treat it like a bodydropped show truck, just drive low and slow, but no dragging, for now at least. and the other truck is my new daily, the 07 canyon.

Thanks guys, well the lightning is back in madmods new shop in pompano to start the body work, will keep everyone posted on the progress. As for the canyon I think the wheels came out good, but I'm not doing anything else to it for a long time but it's good enough for the time being. Gotta say though, I love the new GM much better than my old rangers.

thanks ^^^,
Heres A little update, the Bed Steps are "molded", just not smoothed yet, he hopes to have them all smoothed this week, he's got to touch up the rollpan a little bit off the truck, then he will mold that on next week. Also planned for next week is the smooth bed caps, and the door templates are mate so those should be shaved next week as well.

She's getting there, cant wait till she's done.

Not much has been done since the last pics were taken. Since i'm leaving in 2-3 weeks for the Mediterranean for about 5-6 months, we're going to space the build out a little longer, so that when i come back it'll be ready for paint and interior. But hopefully by the end of next week the suicide doors should be done and some shaving.

so question for you guys, I have a chance to get a a really good deal on some new/barely used Bonspeed Sweeps, however it will be a 20/22 combo 22x10 with a 6.5" backspace ( would they even work for the rear? and 20x8.5 for the fronts. What you guys think worth it. it will solve alot of issues i'm having with the front as far as the brakebooster and the 1-2" my front is from laying frame.

yeah, but i change my mind so much, and to tell a interior guy what i want over the phone and email without actually showing him, let alone trying to choose colors would be so much harder. What should i do about my wheels though...i think i may do the 20/22

Sweet ride. I've always dug the lightnings. Even the first gens.

So here's a little photoshop action with the wheels your looking at. Approximately 20's up front and 22's on the rear (assuming you have 22's now).
